Raila and Kibaki meet, call for calm

Posted by kenyaburning on January 24, 2008

A meeting between Raila Odinga and the president of Kibakistan Mwai Kibaki took place yesterday where the two leaders asked supporters to cultivate peace. Details of what led the two to appear together are not clear, but Raila should be careful not to weave himself into another Kibaki treacherous scheme by being over-eager to forgive.

Here’s the BBC coverage of this historic moment:

You be the Judge.

By Mutahi Ngunyi

This week I want to give a suggestion to President Mwai Kibaki: He should fire his speechwriter! If we lived in a ”banana republic,” these people would have actually been charged with sabotage. What they gave the President to read on Jamhuri Day was flat and shoddy. In fact, his speech on this day sounded like recycled material from the Madaraka Day and Kenyatta Day addresses. And what is worrying is that his speechwriters did not even seem to notice the repetitions. The question we should ask here is why?

The answer to this is simple: Maybe they also slept through the speeches! The long and short of things is therefore that someone is being negligent.

Let us now turn to the fact that the President has finally put his portrait on our currency. In my view, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, there would be nothing wrong if he put a family portrait on one of the currency notes. Read the rest of this entry »

Kenya will never be the same

Posted by kenyaburning on January 20, 2008

The gains made during the Second Liberation from the Moi dictatorship regime are now a thing of the past. The American media earlier equated the clashes in Kenya to the Rwanda genocide. The Kenya conflict is as a result of a people that have been violated, an election that has been stolen and angry citizens who feel abused and betrayed specifically by an act of theft. Tribal tensions have been in existence since independence from British rule but that someone would be killed because he is a member of a certain tribe is new to Kenya. Read the rest of this entry »

ODM’s Marende wins speakership in round three

Posted by kenyaburning on January 15, 2008

Speaker Kenneth MarendeBy a simple majority vote of 105 to 101, Kenneth Marende defeated former speaker Francis Ole Kaparo in the hotly contested speaker race. ODM showed unity and trounced the government side, which stands accused of rigging the just concluded election. Mwai Kibaki looked on as his side faced open defeat in the hands of the united opposition.
This is the beginning of the end of the Kibaki joke of a government.

Article attacks Raila, Obama

Posted by kenyaburning on January 12, 2008

An opinion piece in The New York Sun has hit the lowest low I know in journalism. This opinion piece almost made me laugh. The guy, reporter Daniel Johnson, swallowed the PNU propaganda whole and licked the plate clean. He even made up his own propaganda in the process and acrobatically connected the fiction in his disjointed mind to Barack Obama. OK, we all know the U.S. presidency is a big deal. We know some people will do everything to stop Obama, but at least use facts Mr. Johnson. Read the rest of this entry »
